POST Hurricane Matthew Meeting
Manager’s report: Patty Miller (CCAM) did not attend; she had informed us of conflicts due to hurricane Matthew.
Tony Taffar: Tony noted how everyone has been working together in the aftermath of Matthew, as we have in other times of trouble. Patty Miller has filed with FEMA for the whole island, and with the insurance companies for the dock and pool. We expect to find more damage and will contact FEMA and the carriers and needed. SCE&G expects to have the remainder of the island’s power restored this weekend. There is a waste collection site, Barnwell landfill (out near Brickyard Point) on Lady’s Island, where material can be taken in addition to the convenience sites. They charge by weight of material and will separate material at the site.
Eddie Carson: Rick and Rodney have been helping others in the first week after Matthew, as have others. Marie Degler suggested roll-off containers and we now have five containers for limbs and lumber on the island, with ones for furniture and appliances here or to be delivered. Doors should be removed from freezers and refrigerators taken out of structures.
Treasurer’s report: Robbie Brown passed out copies of August’s and September’s abbreviated financial reports. Tony Taffar asked to be sent detailed reports.
Club House: The club house didn’t suffer significant damage but did lose about three feet of centerline roof cap (roof is relatively new, about ten years old).
Pool Report: Pool has considerable trash, limbs, and seawater in it, but no obvious damage. Discussion with Patty Miller and the pool maintenance contractor says it would be best to drain the pool, clean it and refill. The status of any pool damage could be better determined and corrected this way. The pool pump equipment was turned off before storm hit. Pump house was damaged and needs repair. Deck needs cleaning and some table were OK.
Dock report: The dock is almost completely destroyed. The aluminum gangplank has been located nearby in the marsh and will be brought back. Electrical power and water have been turned off. Quotes for replacement will be requested, but with the number of docks destroyed, this replacement may be a lengthy process.
Road report: No significant issued noted, but seawall near boat landing may need inspection/repair. Also some signs were knocked down.
Codes report: Any changes being made during repairs need to be documented and sent in for Tansi’s review. We will ask members to use CCAM’s webpage to submit these items. Beaufort Co. will still need to review/approve changes per its regulations. Repairs/maintenance to existing items do not require notification/permits.
Tony Taffar made a motion to allow camping for the purpose of home repairs until December 31, 2016, when needs will be revisited, seconded by Eddie Carson. This motion passed unanimously.
Place links to CCAM’s webpage and Beaufort Co’s permitting website on our website and Facebook.
Power is still out on part of the island and some people have to replace tier old pedestal boxed. Permits are needed to replace the meter systems, and it was mentioned Beaufort Co. is trying to expedite the permitting process. Please remember to call underground lines identifying service before digging.
Robbie Brown made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Eddie Carson, and passed (10:00 AM).
The next scheduled Board meeting is set for December 17, 2016, at 9:00 AM.
Respectfully submitted,
Robbie Brown
